Local Knowledge and Open Borders: Creativity and Heritage
University of Tartu / International Summer University
Degree Course | July 30 - August 4, 2009
6 ECTS credits
Cultural heritage is a value-laden term that implies locality, and yet its categorization or
political implementation is embedded in the globalized world. Cultural heritage carries a
strong potential for the acquisition of sociopolitical capital but renders also channels for
economic resources. On the other hand, the analysis of the identification and
instrumentalization process of cultural heritage requires a critical investigation of the making and social dissemination of scholarly knowledge in the context of cultural heritage research, of the mutual effects of cultural politics and academia.
Therefore this course of the International Summer University in Tartu, Estonia, invites M.A. and Ph.D. students in various fields of cultural research to participate in an interdisciplinary international network and training course that will offer new perspectives and methodological approaches in heritage studies.
